It Is Well

Devotional for Sunday, 2nd of June 2019

Text: And he said, “Why are you going to him today? It is neither the new moon nor the Sabbath.” And she said, “It is well!” – 2Kings 4:23

Many times we are confronted with difficulties that devastate our being and we feel all is gone and there is nothing to hold on to again. At such times, we are enveloped with the feeling of hopelessness. Surely, it is not well.

When the Shunammite woman was faced with the death of her only son and she decided to take him to Prophet Elisha, her consciousness was firmly that of ‘it is well’. She never gave up on the child or believed that nothing could be done to bring him back to life; she was resolute that ‘it is well.

Not only did she tell her husband that ‘it is well’, but she also repeated the same thing to the Prophet’s Assistant, Gehazi. Ultimately, the boy was brought back to life by the Prophet.

What is it that you are going through? Have you resigned to fate and feel that there is no hope at all? The great step in getting things back in the right way is to believe that ‘it is well’. Have that certainty and you will see your miracle come to life.

The Unrighteousness Of Telling Lies

Devotional for Tuesday 28th of May 2019

TEXT: 1 JOHN 2: 20 – 22But you have had the Holy Spirit poured out on you by the Master, and so all of you know the truth. I write to you, then, not because you do not know the truth; instead, it is because you do know it, and you also know that no lie ever comes from the truth. Who, then, is the liar? It is anyone who says that Yeshua is not the Messiah. Such a person is the Enemy of the Master — he rejects both the Father and the Son. (Today’s English Version)

What is telling lies?

1. Presentation of half-truths

2. Misrepresentation of facts especially to suit one’s intention

3. Outright fabrication of falsehood

Why tell lies?

1. To cover-up evil or sin for self-preservation

2. Achievement of pre-set goals especially those goals that are not the will of Yahweh

3. Fear of punishment, rebuke or of the unknown

Who is a liar?

1. A person who denies that Yeshua is the Messiah. 1 John 2:22

2. A child of the devil. John 8:44 “The devil is a liar and the father of it”.

Lying is almost the root of all evil. This is why Shaul puts it first in his exhortations for living according to the Way.

Ephesians 4:25 Put away lying

Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to one another

Being truthful, which is doing away with lying, comes first in the Armour of Yahweh. Ephesians 6:14 – Stand therefore, having guarded your waist with truth.

Today, we lie a lot. Even calling some white lies meaning they are not harmful. ‘419’, Internet Fraud, infidelity, cheating, embezzlement are examples of telling of lies. Others include doctoring of account and presentation of false reports.

What to do:

1. Adopt righteous sorrow

2. Repent

3. Be open to rebuke

4. Confess your sins

5. Do it right / say the truth at all times

THE VALUE OF WORK

[Yahweh instructed Moses to tell the Jewish people,] “You must not take interest.” Leviticus 25:36

There is a subtle yet crucial difference between an investor profiting from his investment and a lender profiting from a loan. When we invest in a financial venture, the invested money still belongs to us; thus, our money is “working” for us. We have therefore earned the profit that the venture returns. In contrast, a loan transfers ownership of the principal to the borrower; the money now belongs to the borrower, even though he is obligated to repay it later. Thus, taking interest on a loan is profiting from someone else’s effort without having participated in that effort. The lender is collecting interest based only upon the fact that the money used to belong to him.

Taking interest on a loan is therefore opposed to the way Yahweh wants the world to operate. Yahweh intended that we refine ourselves by working for our achievements, both spiritual and material. In the words of the sages, “If someone says to you, ‘I have toiled without results,’ do not believe him. If he says, ‘I have not toiled, but have nonetheless seen results,’ do not believe him either. Only if he says, ‘I have toiled and seen results,’ believe him.”

YAHWEH SETS FREE

Daily Devotional for Wednesday 22nd of May, 2019

But the YAHWEH is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked. (Psalm 129:4)

There is no doubt that we are confronted daily with the devices of the wicked. The devil himself is not resting on each man’s case, working assiduously to ensure that everyone walk contrary to the ways of YAHWEH.

However, YAHWEH is always on our side freeing us from the cords of the wicked. To get us, the wicked will do anything to entangle us and make us fall from the presence of YAHWEH. His love towards us makes Him to protect and deliver us from the snare of the fowler. Psalm 124:7-8 says “we have escaped like a bird out of the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped; our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth”.

Yeshua, our Master, came “to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners” (Isaiah 61:1). This he will do only for those who believe in him as Master and who have confess same.

I am glad I am covered because I believe! Are you? Have you confessed Yeshua as your Lord? It is only then you can be cut free from the cord of the wicked.

Shalom!

ARE YOU ALIVE?

Daily Devotional for Monday 19th of May, 2019

We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. The one not loving his brother stays in death – 1 John 3:14

When we consider the manner in which man was created and it’s consequence, we will perceive that the Creator designed man to be like Himself to function effectively. The effective man has the Spirit of Yahweh which keeps him alive. To be found in Him is to be brought out from death.

What then is the boast of any man to being alive when he is not like the Most High? To be like Yahweh is to imbibe the attribute of the Almighty. Yahweh is love (1 John 4:8) declares the Scripture. If we claim to be a child of Yahweh, we must love as He loves.

Who then is alive? It is the man that loves like Yahweh. When our love for our fellow man is in doubt, we cannot say we are alive. Such a person is still a dead man. The second part of 1 John 3:14 says it clearly: “Anyone who does not love, remain in death”.

It is time for you to search yourself if you are truly alive. Many are deeply dead yet claim to be alive. If you are not showing love to your neighbour, you are DEAD. Show some love today!

Shalom.

RECIPE FOR HAPPINESS

Daily Devotional for Saturday 18th of May 2019

Text : Proverbs 8 : 22 – 9 : 6

All men desire to live a happy life. We daily pursue after happiness knowing fully well that it is most singular thing that shows we are in tandem with creation.

What does bring happiness?
In the Book of Proverbs, WISDOM declares “happy are those who keep my ways” (8:32) and “happy is the man who listens to me” (8:34).

Who or what is wisdom?
King Solomon speak of Wisdom as the first of the acts of the Creator. Wisdom came into being before the earth got its shape or any of its contents. Wisdom was there at Creation beside Yahweh like a master workman and has since been delighting in the sons of men.

Wisdom is the very words of the Almighty Creator. No wonder, all through the Book of Proverbs, it keep calling on men to listen to it. In the 8th chapter, it calls on men to “hear instructions and be wise and do not neglect it” (33). It beckons on men to “daily watch at my gates, waiting beside my doors” (34).

Wisdom conclusion is that if “you find me, you find life and obtains favour from Yahweh; but he who misses me injures himself; all who hate me love death” (35 – 36).

In it all, what you are being told is that, the Word of Yahweh is the tool of Creation existing with the Most High before creation; and by it everyone can find happiness.

How well do you know the Word of Yahweh and applying it to your life? There are seven pillars of wisdom; do you know them? How well are you building your life using the seven pillars of wisdom?

All these are available within the Word of Yahweh and walking in the way of wisdom brings happiness which is abundant life.

Shalom!

REAPING THE WHIRLWIND

Daily Devotional for Friday 17th of May 2019

Text : Hosea 8 vs 7 – 8

As children of the Most High, we are used to praying that our enemies will come under the judgement of the Most High for the evil they do towards us. That was also a thing Israel was used to, calling on Yahweh to deliver it from its enemies and punish them.

In our lives, we do not always remember that our actions also will come under the judgement of the Almighty. We transgress His commands and run under His canopy of grace to continue enjoying the works of darkness we do.

Yahweh is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24) and punishing those who hate Him (Exodus 20:5)

In Hosea chapter 8, it was clear that Israel transgressed the Torah of Yahweh and He was definite that “they shall reap the whirlwind” (vs 7). Israel surely did reap the whirlwind.

As we pray for Yahweh’s revenge on our enemies, surely he also punishes us for our transgression of His Torah. We must be obedient children of the Most High being careful not to sin against Him. As a father disciplines a child he loves, so Yahweh reproves us (Proverbs 311-12) for our good.

However, because of His love towards us; He is calling on us to return to him. In the concluding chapter of Hosea, Yahweh beckoned on Israel to return to Him and He promised to heal the nation.

What are you waiting for? Return to the owner of your soul today. Repent of all your sins and live obediently to the Torah of Yahweh. He will surely bless you mightily.

Shalom!
