Everyone has a body and a soul. What is a soul? The soul is the spiritual or immaterial part of a human being and it is immortal. With the soul, we connect with the Creator because the soul is from Him. It is the soul that can lift us high as we need to go.
Many people do not take cognisance of their soul. They live their life, responding to the demands of the body. With the body they connect with this world leaving out the Essence of the Most High. As the world was ‘without form and void’ at creation; so their life is, without the imput of the soul.
When they clog their life with disjointed activities to please their body, a time will come when they will ask themselves in despair, “Is this what life is all about?”. At that time, they would have lost their peace and happiness.
By acknowledging that within your body is a soul, the soul that can give your life purpose and lift it above the mundane pursuits of everyday life, you begin to put the pieces of your fragmented life in order.
To be a happy, wholesome and healthy human being, your body and soul must work in perfect harmony. This is where the difficulty lies in many people’s pursuit of happiness – the soul and the body are in constant conflict. While the body is basically looking to satisfy its needs of pleasure, the soul is looking for transcendence – ways to unite us with the Creator. Simply put, the body has a desire to receive to please self while the soul’s desire is to receive for the purpose of sharing. We must accept that these two forces are in us and we must do all we can to unite their desires.
While many will seek to create special moments to satisfy the soul’s yearning through spiritual activities, they still fall back into lack of fulfillment and unhappy state when they are confronted with the urges of the body that they have to succumb to.
The only way to unite body and soul is to first accept that the Creator is far higher than our limited selves. We then allow the soul to take charge of the body, disciplining it and making it recognize its true purpose on earth. By this submission of the body, it can then rise to its true prominence when its actions are not to satisfy itself but to bring the divine upon the temporal.
It is then that our daily activities are infused with the Essence of the Creator. No longer are we eating just for eating sake, but we eat to satisfy the Creator. That is how we will handle all our activities. Then, we overcome selfishness and live our life loving our neighbours. By doing so, we are nourishing our souls to attain a state of unending happiness.
True happiness is the fusion of body and soul dedicated to a higher cause, a cause that benefits humankind and gives meaning and inner peace to the individual in the process.
